Why do you have a vote?
The City of London Corporation's electoral role
includes all residents in the City and a number of business voters.
Businesses that operate as sole traders or as partnerships are
given a vote for each named business owner or partner. Other corporate
(PLCs, LLPs and other bodies, eg Livery Halls) have a vote by
reference to the number of employees that work in that office.
Each year the office of the City Electoral Services canvass businesses
to confirm the number of employees and named voters. The City
recommends that the vote is spread evenly throughout the organisation
but it is up to the business how they allocate their votes. Click

The election for Alderman is based on the existing
list of named voters. Voting is like in any other local government
election. You will be sent by post a polling card and details
of the location of the polling station in Dowgate Ward. You can
apply for a postal
or a proxy vote. The forms can be downloaded from the City of
London website
or through the contacts below. If you apply for a postal or proxy
vote it will be sent out well before the voting date. You can
deliver them on the day of the poll to the Guildhall as long as
they arrive by the deadline. A proxy vote means that someone will
exercise your vote on your behalf.
